Modifying Disease Progression

COPD is chronic and progressive, with exacerbations along the way. However, each aspect or component of the disease including co-morbidities may be treatable. The lung layer responds to the control of inflammation, bronchoconstriction, infection, and hyperinflation. The deconditioning component responds to exercise training. The exacerbation (flare-up) layer is managed by prevention and early recognition and rapid response that comprise the Rapid Action Plan.
